That there’s something BIG and BETTER out there waiting for you. That something deep inside of you is burning for something more, to inspire and make an impact?

Back in 2016 while I sat at my desk in my office as a Relationship Manager in one of the offshore banks in Singapore, those were the questions I asked myself. Someone on the outside looking in would think that my life looked pretty good. I had a good job, my own personal office, lucrative salary but I was feeling completely empty. It drove me nuts waking up each morning, rushing with the morning crowd, squeezing in packed trains to work for someone else’s dream. Being stuck in my office, having to ask for permission when I needed time off work to do the things that matter was not how I wanted to spend the rest of my life until I retire at 65 (or at least I hoped! at the rate I was going, heck I might have to work till 70, if the company still wants me!). Wake up, work, sleep, weekends, holidays, repeat was definitely not something that I envisioned doing after all that education I had growing up.

I STARTED SEEKING MY Passion.

Like most millenials, I seeked out ways to find my passion. I remember sitting in my office one day and I spun my chair around at 3pm in the afternoon, I saw someone having a private yoga lesson in the yoga studio across my office building and thought to myself. Wouldn’t it be great if I was there instead of facing my computer screen. And then a lightbulb lit in my head. I know! I could be a yoga instructor!

Backstory: I’ve been practicing yoga since I was 20. So I acted upon my instincts, got myself certified as a yoga instructor, converted one of the rooms in my apartment into a yoga studio and I started teaching after work hours and boy I truly enjoyed it. I still had to keep my dayjob because it was paying my bills.

I wanted freedom.

The reality of life made me reflect hard too. Sure I was earning a great salary as a banker. I was young and physically abled which meant even if something happened to my job I could probably still teach yoga to make a living, but what if one day I was no longer needed by the company and as I age, if anything were to happen to me, I was no longer able to teach, then what? I also saw how my parents were aging and will be retiring soon and as a daughter, I want to be able to support and give them a comfortable retirement life, after all that they’ve done for us, growing up. Given what I was earning, there’s only so much I can give after taking care of my own expenses. I want to be able to take them on holidays and spend time with them in their golden years. I knew I had to look for something else.

I was still looking for a way out of my corporate career because while teaching yoga was enjoyable, it didn’t give me what I wanted;

The freedom of choice and time to do the things I want when I want to do it and not have to worry about money. I wanted to be an entrepreneur.

In 2017, an amazing opportunity found me.

You know how when you put out your intentions to the Universe and the universe responds? That’s exactly what happened. I was contemplating on furthering education on the study of nutrition and science but before I did that, I wanted to speak to someone who was already in the field just so I understood what it would take to run such a business so I googled for a Naturopath doctor, called and made an appointment and walked into her clinic. We got to talking and she said “ Realistically, being a naturopath and running my own clinic cannot give me time and financial freedom. I’m constantly needed on the phone, even when I’m away on my meditation retreats, I can never truly switch off. I love what I do, it fulfills me, but it can’t give you what you’re looking for and then she asked;

“Why don’t you come and have a look at this other business platform? It’s a fantastic global business opportunity and it can definitely give you what you’re looking for!”

The smart and educated people were doing it

To be honest, when I was first presented with the business opportunity, I felt uncomfortable because it was something that was really new to me and I didn’t quite understand it. I was introduced to the rest of the team who were made up of professionals from various backgrounds, private bankers, engineers, stockbrokers, dental surgeons, lawyers, government scholars, harvard graduates, fund managers and something in my gut told me that there was something to look at here. If these smart and educated people were doing this business, this had to be some big and serious business. So I took off my employee hat and started looking at it from a business standpoint. And that was it. I decided that this was going to give me what I wanted;

The freedom of choice and time to do the things I want, when I want to do it and not have to worry about money.

The best decision by saying yes

I said yes and it is by far the best decision I’ve made in my life. I started running the business part time and a year after in December 2018, I resigned from my day job because my income from the business tripled my day salary and that gave me the confidence to step into the entrepreneurial world full time!

Today…

I am so blessed and grateful for my life. I’m 33 years young and I own a business. While it is only the beginning of my journey, I am well on track on achieving my goals! It takes hard work to build this business but I believe that’s what’s going to make it worthwhile. I love what I do more than anything and I wouldn’t trade the ups and downs of owning my own business and being an entrepreneur for anything! I’ve replaced my job income where I had to trade time for money to build a stream of residual income for the long haul.
